Cheryl Lynn Brewer Wahlmeier

June 14, 1952 — December 10, 2023

Cheryl Lynn Brewer Wahlmeier went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on December 10th, 2023 in Marietta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delma Louise Young and James Rayphel Brewer, her infant sister, Sharon Lee, her aunt, Pearle Ameila Reames and uncle, Eugene Lester Reames who raised them, her twin brother Harold James Brewer and brother-in-law Richard Wheeler.

Cheryl was born on June 14, 1952, with her twin brother, Harold, in East St Louis, Illinois. She prided herself in being 3 minutes older than her “womb mate.”

She grew up in southern Illinois, in Fairview Heights, and was deeply involved in her church, Unity Roselawn/First Baptist. She went on to attend college at Kansas University where she met Bruce and where their friendship turned into a budding romance. She graduated from KU with a degree in social work and married Bruce on May 29, 1976. they moved to Georgia in the winter of 1978 where they both found jobs in education. Cheryl worked with troubled children for the first few years, then spent a significant amount of time serving children with developmental challenges and their families. Later she went on to start and run a wallpapering business with her best friend Marcia.

Cheryl sang for years in her church choir and served wherever she found herself, in whatever way possible, from leading ministries to serving in the nursery, or helping out in whatever area hospitality was needed.

Friends and family from all walks of life describe Cheryl as being a bright light, and a deep well of joy who poured herself out to love and serve, even when her strength and body was beginning to fail her. Anyone who met Cheryl witnessed firsthand how she truly loved and served as the hands and feet of Jesus.

Her favorite verse was Romans‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬:

‭ ”May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.“ She embodied this to the fullest.

‭‭

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bruce Wahlmeier; their son Seth Wahlmeier, daughter Ellie Wahlmeier who along with Jackson Speaker are parents to Ayla, Alex, Logan, Lucas, and Madison, Cheryl and Bruce’s grandchildren; two of whom Cheryl and Bruce have been raising for the last ten years.

Those who called her sister, Art (Kay) Reames, Robert (Lisa) Reames, Donald (Roseanne) Brewer, Carole (Bill) Whittenberg, Kathy Brewer, Sherry Brewer, Sandra Wheeler, and Allen (Janet) Reames, and a host of cousins to whom she was a beloved Aunt.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, December 16, at 2pm at The Wahlmeier’s church, Sanctuary, 700 Mars Hill Rd, Kennesaw, GA 30152 with Reverend Jack Kelly Officiating. There will be a reception to follow of Cheryl’s favorite foods, fried chicken and brownies.
