Cecil "CBO" Pope, MSgt. USMC (Ret.), passed away in Austell, Georgia, on November 1, 2026, at the age of 85.
CBO lived his life as a man of few words, known for his quiet demeanor, strong work ethic, and dedication to his passions. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after more than 20 years of honorable service as a Master Sergeant. Underscoring his disciplined nature, he successfully completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland while serving on active duty.
CBO lived and died in Austell, where he found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a skilled shade-tree mechanic who was exceptionally good at fixing just about anything, and he deeply loved spending time outdoors doing yard work. He was especially passionate about growing tomatoes and was known for producing the juiciest ones in town. In his quieter moments, CBO could most often be found in his sunroom, peacefully watching the birds in his backyard.
CBO is survived by his wife, Sherrie; his son, David; his daughter-in-law, Rachel and his grandchildren, Samuel and Isaac. He was preceded in death by his children, Michelle and Jennifer.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family ceremony will be held at a date to be determined.
