Charlotte Kell Goldman, passed away on April 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love. She was known for her kind, gracious, and steadfast nature. Born on November 21, 1942, in Toccoa, Georgia, to John Frank Kell and Lessie Campbell Kell, her beautiful, gracious smile melted many hearts.
Charlotte’s life was one of dedication and service. After graduating from Toccoa High School in 1960, she received her AA degree from North Greenville Jr. College (now University) where in 1961, she was named “Most Likely to Succeed.” In 1963 she earned her BA in Music education and Choral Direction from Furman University. She then embarked on a rewarding career working with children’s choirs and singing in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for 20 years under Robert Shaw. She also founded and directed a children’s choir in the Marietta housing projects where she chose encouraging songs from the heritage of the children. Charlotte nurtured so many young minds with kindness and patience, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
In 1964, Charlotte married the love of her life, Terry Goldman, in a beautiful ceremony at First Baptist Church Toccoa. Together, they raised three children, Mark, Matt, and Mandi, who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling with her family throughout the USA and Europe, Canada, Asia, and Central America.
.
Charlotte's family grew and she delighted in her nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, with two more babies on the way who all will miss Grandmama’s one-of-a-kind hugs, park days, lunch dates, music lessons, prayers, wise counsel, and the blessing of knowing the absolute sweetest woman God created. Her unwavering kindness and gentle spirit touched every heart she encountered, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever echo in many memories. Her reassuring presence and compassionate nature made her a constant source of comfort even as she corrected her grandchildren with an, “Unh-uh... we’ll have none of that.”
Charlotte's passions extended beyond spending time with family. She loved to play her piano, to sing, to attend concerts and read. One of her daughter-in laws said, “She had a song for every occasion and sang out when the conversation inspired her.” Known for her warm hospitality, she made guests feel right at home. She hosted gatherings filled with laughter, generosity, and her cockeyed optimism.
Charlotte Kell Goldman's legacy is one of unwavering love, commitment, and community service. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her memory will bless her family and the many lives she touched. Her closest friends described her as “The most steadfast person I have ever known” and “She was the most self-controlled person I have ever met.”
