Cody Steven Doegg of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on April 22, 2026.

Born on March 26, 1992, Cody grew up in the Rockmart and Dallas area. He was a dedicated and well-respected public defender in the Douglas County Public Defender’s Office, where he was known for his commitment to justice, his sharp legal mind, and his compassionate representation of his clients. Colleagues and those who worked with him remember him as one of the kindest and smartest individuals they had the privilege to know—a true advocate who brought integrity and heart to his important work.

His mistress truly was fairness and Justice.

Outside of his profession, Cody was a beloved son, brother, and family member whose gentle presence and intelligence were legendary. He will be remembered for his quiet strength and the way he cared deeply for those closest to him, especially how he loved animals.

Cody is survived by his loving mother, Kelly Shackelford of Rockmart, Georgia; his father, Ricky Shackelford of Dallas, Georgia; his sister, Cassie Little of Rockmart, Georgia; his brother, Jordan Doegg and his wife Kayla of Rockmart; and his brother, Max Doegg and his partner Kacie Wilson of Rockmart and special little brother and gaming partner, Jackson Doegg of Rockmart. He is also survived by his aunts: Kim Smith of Piedmont, Alabama; Sandi Hulsey of Rockmart, Georgia; and Kris Statham of Rockmart, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bennie and Sue McCown of Rockmart, Georgia; his mentor, Jackson Brumbelow of Rockmart, Georgia; and his aunt, Pat Rogers of Piedmont, Alabama.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at 721 Everett Mountain Rd, Rockmart, Georgia, where his ashes will be scattered in the lake. The public is welcome to attend and help us show Cody how loved he was by all.

Cremation services are being handled by Leaf Cremation of Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Cody’s memory to a cause that reflects his values—such as legal aid organizations, animal rescues, or any charity close to the family’s heart.

Though his time with us was far too short, Cody’s legacy of kindness, intelligence, and dedication to helping others will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
