David Matthew Hodges, 39, of Sharpsburg, Georgia passed away on March 18, 2026, after an almost 8 year battle with Glioblastoma.
David was born on January 8, 1987 in Arnett, Oklahoma and was the son of Jerry and Mary Ellen Hodges.
David is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Doris McColm, and paternal grandparents, Everett and Bettye Hodges.
During his early years, David was homeschooled and attended a ski academy in Crested Butte, Colorado where he competed in giant slalom events. He also worked on his family’s ranch in Southwest Kansas. Later, David graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Walden University in Fire Science. He worked as a career firefighter in Dodge City, Kansas before taking a position as medical administrator for MedCorp while continuing as a volunteer firefighter in West Columbia, Texas.
After traveling for years with work, David and the family settled in Kenyon, Minnesota where he worked as an assistant fire chief for Koch Brothers Refinery. David loved ranching, skiing, steak & queso. He will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Ellis Hodges; children Lilly (15), Levi (12), and Harry (10); parents Jerry and Mary Ellen Hodges; sisters Jessica (Charlie) Nagel, Lindsey (Jerry) McEntee, and Kristin (Bradley) Hines; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many close friends that are considered family.
Before David even fought cancer, God sent special souls to come alongside him and loved him like their own: Paula and her late husband Greg Bradley as well as Connie and Mark Miller.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southwest Christian Care Hospice Facility in Union City, Georgia.
