Earl Chapman Hiers

Earl Chapman Hiers, dearly beloved by his family and friends, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, December 19, at the age of 83. He was born on September 9, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, to Wilbur and Toye Hiers.

Chapman attended Reinhardt University, where he studied accounting. He spent the majority of his professional career with The Audichron Company in the Atlanta area, serving as the company’s controller, a role in which he was highly respected for his integrity, diligence, and leadership.

Chapman was married to Peggie Honey Hiers for 56 years. Peggie, the love of his life, passed away six years ago after a long-term illness. Their marriage, marked by devotion and sacrificial love, was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Following his retirement, Chapman dedicated much of his time to volunteering and serving in various capacities at Dunwoody Baptist Church. In addition to serving as a DBC Foundation Board Member, he was instrumental in the planning, care, and maintenance of church facilities. While he loved serving the church, the camaraderie and fellowship shared with friends during this time brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

Chapman was an avid golfer and a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan. His ideal day would have been spent playing golf on a marsh course with close friends and family, while talking Georgia football.

Chapman was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peggie, his parents Wilbur and Toye Hiers, his brother Don Hiers (Rita) and his great-grandson Daniel Chapman Carter.

He is survived by his two children, Juli Hiers Carter (John) and Bradley Chapman Hiers (Natalie); five grandchildren, Cole Carter (Sydney), Joshua Carter (Meredith), Caroline Lott (Walker), Michael Hiers (Kylie), and Grace Hiers; and three great-grandchildren, Charlie Carter, Betts Carter, and Beckham Lott; and his brother Tim Hiers (Angie), and his sister Cheryl Hiers.

Affectionately known as “Dada” by his grandchildren, Chapman was the very best Granddad. Showing up to cheer on and support his grandchildren was a priority in his life. He was a trusted source of wisdom and life advice, always offering steady counsel and a godly perspective during challenging times.

Chapman will be profoundly missed, and his family finds comfort in the hope of being reunited with him, and with Peggie, again one day. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the family and friends who prayed for Chapman and provided such loving care over the past six months.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 16, at Dunwoody Baptist Church (1445 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA), with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Dr. Allen Jackson and Reverend Allen Taliaferro will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chapman’s honor to Dunwoody Baptist Church.
