With heavy hearts yet deep gratitude for a life filled with love and faith, the family of Eleanor Diane Morse announces her passing at her home in Cartersville, GA on March 21, 2026 after a courageous battle with stage four pancreatic and liver cancer.
Eleanor Diane Copland Atkinson Morse was born in Atlanta to the late Theodore Copland and the late Anne Boiling Atkinson on February 12, 1957. She attended Savannah High School and spent much of her early life serving faithfully at Bible Baptist Church. Over years of service she worked closely with the youth group and children’s ministry. She was involved in organizing and supporting children’s church programs and plays. Her heart for children and for serving the Lord was evident to all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, David Morse; her four children: Stephen Morse, Stephanie Barnes and her husband James, Stacie Houghton, and Stuart Morse and his wife Kari. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Katie, Rhiah, and Chase Morse; Bayley, Stuart, Caleb, and Logan Patrick Barnes; Ezra, Lydia, Selah, Noa, and Adah Houghton; and Grayson, Alaina, and Jameson Morse.
She was preceded in death by her brother Theodore “Bubba” Copland and brother William “Bill” Atkinson. She is survived by her stepfather John Atkinson, her brother Thomas “Tommy” Atkinson, and her sister Suzanne Atkinson.
In 2001, she and David moved to Cartersville, GA, where they continued building their life together. She was a member of CrossPoint City Church. Professionally, she worked for many years in the healthcare field as a medical credentialing specialist, helping support physicians and hospitals behind the scenes. During her career she worked with Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Cartersville Medical Center, HCA Healthcare, Wellstar and Piedmont Healthcare serving the metro Atlanta area.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and dearly. Her home was filled with warmth and the kind of love that made everyone feel welcome. She will be remembered for the way she loved well and laughed greatly. Her faith, kindness, and devotion to family will remain a lasting legacy for all who knew her.
She will be cremated with visitation and memorial service to be held at CrossPoint City Church in Cartersville, GA on April 11, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, memorial service at 12:00 PM. A second service will be held in Savannah, GA at The Sycamore Church on April 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Bayley Barnes, Stuart Barnes, Caleb Barnes, Grayson Morse, Ezra Houghton, Chase Morse, Logan Patrick Barnes, and Jameson Morse.
Though her battle with cancer was difficult, she faced it with courage, faith, and grace, surrounded by the love of her family. Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a life lived in service to others. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort
knowing she is now at peace and in the presence of the Lord she faithfully served. Her love lives on in every child, grandchild, and lives she touched.
