Gail Smith HenryOctober 2, 1940 – April 26, 2025
Mrs. Gail S. Henry, 84, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2025. She was born in Jasper County, South Carolina, to the late James Lester Smith, Sr. and Nella Mae Smith.
Gail was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Hampton Henry. Bill and Gail were married October 18, 1961 in Greensboro, NC. They attended Trinity Church where they raised their two daughters, Sonya Henshaw and Cheryl Wallin. Greensboro was home to Mrs. Henry for many years, and is where she built a home filled with love and laughter, before moving to Woodstock in 2009 to be closer to family.
Gail was an avid gardener and found joy in crafting and sewing. She enjoyed many activities outside of the home as well, including bowling, camping, and visiting family in South Carolina. Gail also loved games—especially dominoes—and never missed a chance to laugh, compete, and enjoy time with those she loved.
More than anything, Gail will be remembered for her strength, quick wit, and unwavering love for her family. Her greatest joy was being “Mom” and “Nana,” roles she embraced wholeheartedly. She created a home where everyone felt welcome, known, and loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Sonya Henry Henshaw (Bob) of Navarre, Florida and Cheryl Henry Wallin (Greg) of Canton, Georgia; her grandchildren, Joseph Hunt (Sierra), Reece Hunt, William Hunt (Heather), Lauren Wallin Scott (Nathan), and Megan Wallin; and her great-grandson, Callan Hunt. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Smith of Early Branch, South Carolina, and her sister, Judith Whitely of Walterboro, South Carolina.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gail was preceded in death by her brothers, James L. Smith, Jr., Legrande Smith, and Eddie Arnold Smith; and her sisters, Barbara Kennedy, Nell Mixson, and Delores Ingold.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Gail’s memory—an organization close to their hearts.
