October 11, 1936 — January 6, 2026

Carrollton

George (Jack) Thomas Phillips ,89, passed away peacefully in Carrollton, GA on January 6, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1936 in Eufaula, AL to William Earm Phillips and Tommie Wilder Phillips. “Jack,” as he was affectionately known, grew up in the Pine Hill community of Randolph County, AL. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Mary Alice Lovvorn.

The couple started their family while living in Hogansville, GA where Jack worked for Uniroyal. In 1964 he was hired by Delta Airlines in Atlanta so they relocated to Fayetteville, GA. His career with Delta spanned more than 30 years. Jack loved his job with Delta and worked hard to rise to the position of Jet Base Machine Shop Foreman.

Fishing for crappie and travel were his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed planning and taking his family on many wonderful trips throughout the US. As a perfectionist and expert carpenter, Jack had a keen eye and enjoyed designing and building beautiful furniture in his spare time. No one could rival his diligent adherence to perfectly maintaining everything at home or work.

Retirement brought more travel adventures and the chance to move “back home” to Alabama. Always ready to help the Wedowee community, Jack was a very willing volunteer for a multitude of activities. He was actively involved in the Annual Lake Cleanup, Kids Fishing Day, Lake Radio Club, and was a certified Lake Water Tester. He and Mary Alice enjoyed lake life to the fullest for many years. He especially relished time with family, friends and his beloved dog Rollie. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Haylock (Rob) and Sherry Cracroft (Davis); grandchildren, Tommie Holt, Mary Bilder, Calvin Bilder (Luna), Rebecca Haylock Arrington, Ryan Haylock (Justin) and Brett Cracroft (Sofia); great-grandchildren, Madison Couch (Preston) and Luca Cracroft; great-great-grandson, Oliver Couch; sister, Betty Jean Stacey (Bobby) and brother-in-law Dennis Lovvorn (Debra).
