Joan Marie Boorman

October 30, 1947 — May 5, 2026

Joan Marie Boorman, 78, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, after a courageous nearly three-year battle with cancer.

Joan was the oldest of nine children in a large Irish Catholic family and was known for her kindness, warmth, adventurous spirit, and deep love for family and friends. She was a devoted mother to Jill and Michael Boorman, mother-in-law to Lindsay Boorman, and proud grandmother to Madelyn and Wyatt.

Joan earned her Ed.D. in Physics and was passionate about teaching teachers, improving the education system and helping children learn. For over forty years, she worked as a teacher and administrator in Buffalo, Charleston, Atlanta, and Brunswick. She quietly impacted many lives through her generosity and love of education.

In retirement, Joan spent her time between St. Simons Island and Big Canoe, Georgia, where she built cherished friendships through book clubs, pickleball, and newcomers club. She loved traveling, biking, kayaking, hiking, and hosting gatherings, especially her annual Chinese New Year parties.

Throughout her illness, Joan faced every challenge with grace, strength, and determination, never losing her love for life and the people around her.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her service will be held in St. Williams Catholic Church on St Simons Island, GA July 9, 2026, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the No Kill Glynn County, Inc. animal shelter.
