John Gaines Katterhenry, son of the late Arnold Allen Katterhenry and Ann Sue Derrick Katterhenry, passed away on May 23, 2026, in Cumming, GA following a short illness. John was born in Chattanooga, TN on May 30, 1945, and the family subsequently lived in Gainesville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Patricia Jean Katterhenry; her children, Allen E. Nicholson, Jr and Debi Nicholson-Chipps (Gayland); brother Arnold Allen ‘Chip’ Katterhenry, Jr (Alice); niece Margaret Katterhenry Schattle (Dana Edmund); nephews David Katterhenry and Michael Katterhenry; first cousins Mike Mee (Donnette) and Tom Barr (Karen); and numerous extended family members.

John was a graduate of Baylor High School in Chattanooga, TN and Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. He was an outgoing person who enjoyed many roles in his long career, including Regional Training Manager with Wendy’s and Freshens Yogurt, Construction Supervisor for a home building company, and most recently Customer Service and Inventory Management with Home Depot for 29 years.

John was a devoted husband, a faithful church member, a loyal colleague, and a true friend. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed following NASCAR and University of Florida athletics. He walked through life with a gentle spirit and a generous heart, always putting the needs of others first.

A service to honor John’s life and faith will be held at 1pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Safe Harbor Church of God of Prophecy, 1648 Canton Hwy 20 West, Cumming, GA 30130.
