John Henry Maddox, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 8, 1945, John lived a life defined by hard work, service, integrity, and devotion to his family and community. He graduated from Worth County High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he furthered his education and developed lifelong friendships and experiences that shaped his future.
John began his career working in his family's furniture business, where he learned the values of dedication, customer service, and entrepreneurship. He later enjoyed a successful career as a pharmaceutical representative with Hoechst Roussel Pharmaceuticals, from which he retired after many years of distinguished service.
Throughout his life, John was deeply involved in his community. He served in numerous leadership and civic roles, including as a City Councilman and an active member of the Georgia Jaycees. He was respected as a businessman, community leader, and friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer thoughtful guidance.
John was also a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. A lifelong supporter of his beloved Bulldogs, he rarely missed a game and proudly cheered for Georgia through every season. Whether attending games, watching from home, or discussing the team's latest accomplishments with family and friends, his passion for Georgia athletics was evident to all who knew him. His love for the Bulldogs brought him great joy and became one of the many things that made him so memorable.
John was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Henry Maddox III; his mother, Myrtle Stanley Maddox; his father, John Henry Maddox, Sr. (Sylvester); his sister, Johnnie Hatcher of Jacksonville, Florida; and his sister, Perry Jean Oliver of Ashburn, Georgia.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Kim Hyman, and her husband, Chip Hyman; his cherished grandchildren, Chandler Hyman and his wife, Lexi, Emily Hyman, Zoe Maddox, and Poppy Maddox; and his daughter-in-law, Rachel Maddox. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
John will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, quick wit, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. He took great pride in his family and found joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow and succeed. His life was a testament to service, perseverance, and the importance of community.
Though he will be greatly missed, his family finds comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind and in the lasting impact he made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association in John's memory.
John Henry Maddox, Jr. will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of his family and friends.
