Joyce Leeth Carter

Joyce Leeth Carter, age 105, Marietta, Georgia, passed away on October 10, 2025.

She was born on February 22, 1920, in East Orange, New Jersey, to George and Helen Leeth.

Preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus Faulkner, Jr., in 1980, and brother Peter in 1986.

Survived by sons Alan (Linda), Gene (Carole), and David, and daughter Sallie (Steve Kidwell).

Joyce grew up in the New York City area. Her father died when she was still an infant, and her mother died of leukemia when Joyce was a teenager. While working for the weather bureau in the New York area, she met Cy Carter, and they were married in 1944 at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. They lived in Charlotte, NC, then St. Louis, Dallas, and finally the Atlanta area. Joyce was proud to be a “homemaker,” bringing up four children and taking care of the family. She was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, including a 50-year-long association with St. Catherine’s Church in Marietta, Georgia. After moving to the Indian Hills golf community in 1975, she became an avid golfer, enjoying the exercise but more importantly the fellowship and friendships. Golfing, bowling, and travel sustained her well into her 90s.

A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church, 571 Holt Rd NE, Marietta, GA 30068, at 11:00 a.m. on November 12, followed by a lunch reception at Indian Hills Country Club.
