Joyce Leeth Carter, age 105, Marietta, Georgia, passed away on October 10, 2025.
She was born on February 22, 1920, in East Orange, New Jersey, to George and Helen Leeth.
Preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus Faulkner, Jr., in 1980, and brother Peter in 1986.
Survived by sons Alan (Linda), Gene (Carole), and David, and daughter Sallie (Steve Kidwell).
Joyce grew up in the New York City area. Her father died when she was still an infant, and her mother died of leukemia when Joyce was a teenager. While working for the weather bureau in the New York City area, she met Cy Carter, a C-47 pilot who flew missions for the US Army Air Forces over the China-Burma-India "hump" during WWII.
They were married in 1944 at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. They lived in Charlotte, NC, then St. Louis, Dallas, and finally the Atlanta area. Joyce was proud to be a “homemaker,” bringing up four children and taking care of the family.
Joyce was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, including a 50-year-long association with St. Catherine’s Church in Marietta, Georgia. She was a regular league bowler from the 1960s up until her 100th birthday. After moving to the Indian Hills golf community in 1975, she became an avid golfer, enjoying the exercise but more importantly the fellowship and friendships. She took numerous golf trips in the U.S. and abroad, including Bermuda, Hawaii, and Ireland. Golfing, bowling, and travel sustained her well into her nineties.
Joyce regularly volunteered at Red Cross Blood Drives. For many years, she served as precinct poll manager for Cobb County elections and was known for her hospitality through the home-baked cookies she would bring.
Joyce's ashes will be interred with Cy's at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C., at a date to be determined.
A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta at 11:00 a.m. on November 12, followed by a lunch reception at Indian Hills Country Club.
