Linda Jeanette Hall Gissy, 76, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away in the early morning hours of April 13, 2026, just days before her birthday. She was born on April 17, 1949.
Linda was a lifelong adventurer whose curiosity and faith guided her throughout her life. A Girl Scout from childhood, she carried those values with her always, later serving as a leader for her daughters and continuing on as an Explorer leader. She was an avid hiker and camper who loved being outdoors and never stopped exploring. Even in 2024, while gem mining, she crossed a creek on her own, declining help with a simple explanation: “I was a Girl Scout.”
From a young age, Linda knew she wanted to work in the sciences. She attended the University of Georgia, completed her medical technology training through Georgia Tech, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University. She later earned her Master’s degree in Business Management through Central Michigan University. She built a 36-year career at Northside Hospital, retiring in 2015 as Director of Quality Assurance.
Linda was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church for 46 years. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she also studied to become a Lay Carmelite. She shared in a life of service with her husband, Thomas Raymond Gissy, whom she married on August 8, 1970. High school sweethearts, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. As the wife of a Knights of Columbus State Deputy and Fourth Degree Knight, she stood alongside him in faith and service until his passing in 2014.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Raymond Gissy, and her parents, Joe Duncan Hall and Anna Capasso Hall.
She is survived by her children, Adrienne Richelle Gissy, Sara Melissa Gissy Witherspoon, and her husband, Derek; and Thomas Matthew Gissy and his wife, Kristen; her grandchildren, Joseph Tyler Townsend Beckworth, Linda Hailey Marie Beckworth, Caroline Anna Elissa Ransbotham, and Jacob Thomas Lowman Witherspoon; and her great-grandson, Roman Beckworth. She is also survived by her brother, George Forrest Hall, and his wife, Christine, along with their children, Donnie and Lauren Martin (Andrew); and her sister, Gina Hall Strickland, and her husband, Michael, along with their children, Julie (Corey) and Christopher; as well as extended family, including nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Edward Thein at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with interment immediately following at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, Georgia.
Flowers are welcome and may be arranged through Carithers Flowers in Marietta. Donations may also be made in Linda’s memory to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, BrightFocus Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871, or online at brightfocus.org/cureAD.
