April 29, 1963 — November 27, 2025

Rydal

Lonnie Darrell Hamby, Sr., beloved husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on Thursday, November 27. 2025, at his home in Rydal, Georgia.

Darrell, known affectionally through the years as “Boob” or “Looney,” was born April 29, 1963, to Harold and Tommie Hamby. He grew up and lived in the Marietta, Georgia area, attended Osbourne High School, and went on to become a business entrepreneur, managing his own companies in landscaping, home renovations, retail and food service, and merged his fondness for Christmas with a tree lot for many years on Whitlock Avenue. His hobbies including fishing, camping, and cheering on the Atlanta Falcons.

Regarded by many as one of the wittiest persons they knew, Darrell always had a quick comeback and one liner that would evoke uproarious laughter in a room. His humor was only matched by his positive attitude and generosity. Even through his extended illness, Darrell continued to make others laugh and shine his glowing spirit. His loving wife, Cindy Middleton Hamby, was by his side through his illness and all of the ups and downs. Special recognition is also given to their friend Ashley Williams, who provided much needed care.

In addition to the two who provided him the best care, Darrell will be greatly missed by all who remember his infectious smile and contagious personality, including his sons Lonnie, Jr. and Dalton of Marietta, his brothers Greg Hamby of Rydal and DeWayne Hamby (and wife LeAnn) of Canton and sister Wendy Bullion of Belleville, Illinois, stepchildren Heather Middleton Velardi (husband Michael), Kim Middleton, and Joey Middleton (wife Heather), along with step grandchildren Stacie and Diego Blas, Abbie Thackston, Dylan Thackston, Austin Middleton and Rylie Middleton, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Tommie Jo.

Family and friends will gather to give their love to his wife and children and remember this one-of-a-kind gentleman at a memorial service at Full Life Church at 2510 E Cherokee Drive on Sunday, December 7 at 2:30 pm.
