Loyice Jean Boateng passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Loganville, Georgia. She was born on April 21, 1947, in Vienna, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Otis West and Gussie (Lewis) West. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Nanette Hart and Rosie Mae Colbert.
Loyice attended public schools in Vienna, Georgia. After graduating high school, she moved to Syracuse, NY, where she met and later married William Boateng in 1967. Loyice and her husband lived in Ghana, West Africa, for a year, and then finally settled in Springfield, Massachusetts. She resided there for the next 27 years. Loyice was a hard worker, and she spent several years working for Digital Equipment Corporation in Springfield. She was also a devoted mother who raised her three children, Stanley, Steven, and Abby, for many years as a single parent. In 1996, Loyice returned to Georgia, and for several years she worked as a home health care aide for ResCare.
Loyice had a love for gardening. She truly had a ‘green thumb’, and she would always plant a garden wherever she lived. She also enjoyed babysitting. Loyice worked part time doing daycare for several years. She formed close relationships with the families of many of the children she cared for.
Loyice’s most important love was her love for Jehovah God. As a teenager she was introduced to the truth through her mother. After she left home, Loyice started studying the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1971. Loyice enjoyed doing personal study and was a faithful meeting attender. She worked hard to help her 3 children grow to love Jehovah God and develop their own personal relationship with Him. She was also very helpful and would regularly give rides to those who needed assistance in getting to the meetings. Even as her health started to decline and she couldn’t attend in person, Loyice would faithfully watch the meetings on Zoom and share her faith through heartfelt letters to her family and neighbors. As her health failed, her love for Jehovah and for her family remained strong, and we look forward to seeing her again in God’s promised new world.
She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing her children, Abby (Benjamin) Ortiz, Loganville, GA, Steven (Dionne) Boateng, Knoxville, TN, Stanley Boateng, Springfield, MA; two sisters, Mary Edwards, Syracuse, NY, Martha Wade, Cordele, GA; three brothers, Robert West, Vienna, GA, David (Darlene) West, Stockbridge, GA, Roy (Belinda) West, Decatur, GA, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
