Lynn Barger Turley, of Roswell, Georgia, passed with dignity on July 11, 2025. Born November 23, 1947, to Aline and Kesner Barger, Lynn spent the first portion of her life in Golconda, Illinois. She attended college at Murray State, in Kentucky, before moving to the Atlanta area, living for several years in Marietta and later in Roswell.
Lynn went on to obtain her Master’s and Education Specialist degrees, and worked as a guidance counselor at Sandy Springs and Webb Bridge middle schools. She took up jewelry making for many years, and most who knew her are likely to still have a pair of earrings or a necklace she made. Always an avid reader, after retirement, she volunteered at the public library and Roswell Historical Society.
Lynn loved to sit outside in the sun, and you would find her enjoying a cup of coffee on her terrace in the morning with one of her beloved cats, Joby or Merlin, no matter how hot it got. You could count on her to author an original rhyme or ditty for a special occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary, and on one occasion, even in honor of a purloined stapler. She was active with the PD Gladiators boxing group for many years, enjoyed walking along the beach or the Chattahoochee River, could beat anyone at Scrabble, and was an avid consumer of extra-crispy calamari and chocolate gelato.
Lynn is survived by her daughter Lindsay Turley (John Mark Boling); her sister Ann Howerton, nephew Jesse Howerton (Corrie Agnew), and their two children; and her companion of over two decades, Spencer Roane and his sons Trey (Anna), Burke (Brooke), and Chris (Jen), all their children, and his extended family. She has been blessed to have wonderful friendships, in the entire Keiter family and others from the neighborhood, her lifelong friends from Golconda, from her professional life, the care partners who supported her throughout her illness, and so many more. She is predeceased by her half-brother Bill Barger, in addition to her parents.
Lynn will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we will carry her unique sense of humor, her fabulous sense of personal style, the determination with which she lived her life to the fullest despite Parkinson’s Disease, and of course, her love, in our hearts. Donations in Lynn’s memory can be made to the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy - https://www.chattahoocheeparks.org/donate
