Mariann Spoelstra, (nee Schwinge) born January 1, 1946, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C. Gordon Spoelstra.
Born in New Jersey, Mariann spent most of her life there, raising her family and sharing her many gifts with those around her. In 2021, she relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia, where she spent her later years.
Mariann is survived by her two sons: Charles G. Spoelstra Jr. and his sons, Leif and Owen; and Jonathan Spoelstra, his wife Susan, and their sons, Andrew and Samuel. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family was a constant source of joy and pride.
A lifelong lover of music, Mariann shared her gift generously through teaching piano to countless students. Music was not only her passion but also her calling. She sang with the Ted Cornell Chorale and traveled to share her Christian faith through song, touching many lives with her voice and spirit.
Mariann loved dogs and spent time with her service dog, Braidie, at hospitals and schools, warming the hearts of those whom they met.
Known for her adventurous spirit, Mariann loved sailing, skiing, and traveling, always eager to explore new places and experiences. Her faith, generosity, love of music, and openhearted hospitality will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
