Mary Ann (Joyce) Day

Mary Ann (Joyce) Day, affectionately known as “Meun,” age 81, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on September 22nd, surrounded by the family she adored.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late John and Marian Joyce, Mary Ann exhibited her warm spirit and natural exuberance from the beginning. After graduating from St. Agnes Academy High School, she attended St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, graduating with a BA in business/economics.

During her college years, she met the love of her life, Richard (Rick) Day. After marrying in 1967, they began their lifelong adventures together in Westchester County, New York, where Mary Ann brought her sharp mind and business acumen to IBM. Four years later, Mary Ann and Rick decided to return to her Midwestern roots in the Chicago area. The city and its northern suburbs provided a vibrant backdrop for the family’s next forty years. While rearing their two children in Winnetka, Illinois, Mary Ann devoted much time and enthusiasm to volunteering at the local schools and at community events. Mary Ann’s limitless energy allowed her to master the courts and greens while playing tennis, paddle tennis, and golf. She treasured time creating memories with family and friends at Lake Wawasee. All this she balanced with part-time jobs in the community and at her favorite bookstores. 

Mary Ann was a woman who lived life at full volume—always ready to dive into a new book, to gather friends around the table for a lively game of cards, or sip on a perfectly spiced Bloody Mary to celebrate good times with friends and family. 

In 2013, she and Rick moved south to Woodstock, Georgia, for her ultimate and favorite role: being a devoted and involved Grammy. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren in their homes, at their schools, and at their sporting events. Once in Georgia, 

Mary Ann enthusiastically endeavored to learn about and embrace Southern culture with her family. Mary Ann’s legacy of love and laughter lives on in her devoted husband, Richard (Rick) Day; her proud children, Michael Day and Libby (Phillip) Schoenecke; and her cherished grandchildren, Caroline and Colin. She will be deeply missed by her beloved sisters, Libby Joyce and Martha Seal, and her adored nieces, Lauren and Meghann, alongside a lifetime of extended family and many friends.

A celebration of life, befitting a cherished woman who brought so much joy to the world, will be held at a later date.
