Melissa Jeanette Hamilton

Covington

Born May 6, 1958, in Dunkirk, NY, daughter of Richard J. Smith and Mildred E. (Robson) Shaffer. Melissa is preceded in death by both parents and brother-in-law, Jerold E. Hulett. She is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, Jon A. Hamilton, daughters, Stephanie (Joshua) Meddaugh and Chelsea Yergens (Michael Jacobs), her adored grandson, Ryan Meddaugh, siblings Brenda (Ron) Emory, Rebecca Hulett, Rhonda (Rodney) Sphon, James (Clarice) Smith, Jodi DuRant, and several nieces, nephews, and siblings-in-law.

Melissa was a graduate of Clymer Central School and Jamestown Community College. She retired from the Chautauqua County Finance Department on May 31, 2023. She served as a Chautauqua County Notary Public for over 30years.

Outside of work, Melissa maintained a full and active social life. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lakewood, NY, and she and her husband were members at the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Melissa loved bowling, golf, and a good game of cards. Her perfect Sunday included a Buffalo Bills win and game night with her family. When she wasn’t dominating at Progressive Rummy, she was busy crafting. Her main love was crochet, but she also enjoyed sewing, painting, and finding creative new ways to use thrifted objects. She made the world around her beautiful.

Melissa will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later time.
