Michael Austin Jones of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 76. He was at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 22, 1949, he was the son of Austin Barrett Jones and Marjorie Gunnell Jones.
Mike (nickname Jonesey) grew up in Gresham Park in SE Atlanta, where he played baseball and football and attended Gordon High School. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served from 1966 to 1969, where he was assigned to the Signal Branch responsible for communications and information systems. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Southern Bell (AT&T), where he retired after 31 years. After retirement, he owned and operated a small florist business and was actively involved with his grandchildren. For much of his adult life, he resided in Marietta, Georgia, where he purchased family property on Due West Road that had been in his mother’s family for over a hundred years.
Mike is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Jones-Pruitt (Kenny Pruitt), Jodi Jones-Roseboro, and Shawn Jones; grandchildren Hailey Fricks (Cameron Wolf), Olivia Reges (Alessandro Reges), Ava Roseboro, Estelle Roseboro, Jade Young; the children’s mother, Frankie Fox; and Sharon Plumbley. He is also survived by devoted companion Denise Ezell, along with siblings, Gina Jones Mitchell and Scott Reid Jones. He is predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service and interment will take place at Georgia Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
