Michiko Sibley

Michiko Sibley, 89, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025. Born on July 18, 1935, in Japan, Michiko lived a vibrant life filled with love, faith, and joy. A pioneer member of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) in the Atlanta area, she introduced countless individuals to the practice, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and community.

Michiko was a gifted dancer whose grace shone at SGI meetings and Japanese festivals throughout Atlanta. Her passion for music and dance brought joy to all who knew her, and her performances were a testament to her spirited heart. Above all, she cherished her family and friends, pouring love into her relationships with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sisters, her beloved husband, James Sibley Sr., and her grandson, DeRhone Hideo Sibley. Michiko is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends and extended family who will forever hold her memory close.

A memorial service will be held at the SGI Atlanta Buddhist Center on July 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Soka Gakkai International-USA in Michiko’s honor. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Michiko during her life.
