Miriam Nivarda Boehringer

February 7, 1936 — November 21, 2025

Acworth, GA

Miriam was born in Havana, Cuba, to her mother, America de Castro Lopez, and her father, Luis Cordova Alvarez. Miriam spent her early years in Havana, where she went to Saint Teresiano Catholic school until graduating at age 16.

Her father, Luis, was a very ambitious and successful individual. He was the drummer for a prominent orchestra in Havana at the Hotel National. He was also very studious, and he became a lawyer after attending the Florida Military Academy. He was also an artist for the local newspaper where he drew charcutiers for people to enjoy.

Her mother, America, fell in love with Luis at a very young age. They were childhood neighbors in Havana. They got married in their twenties. They worked together in Havana where America was the stenographer in the court room.

Miriam was the only child of Luis and America. When she was 16, after graduation, she began working as a secretary at the law firm with her parents. In 1959, during the Cuban revolution, she escaped communism and relocated to Miami, FL, with her family. She lived and worked in the Miami Beach area. In 1964, Miriam decided to move to the bright lights and big city of New York to live with her aunt Maria Castro, aka Tia Cachucha. She worked in various places in the city, such as hotels, Woolworths, and the World’s Fair.

During her employment at the World’s Fair Spanish pavilion, she met her future husband, Werner Boehringer. They fell in love instantly and got married one year later. They then decided to move across the country to San Francisco, California, to start a new life. Werner was a successful waiter and Maître D' at luxury Hilton hotels and restaurants in Switzerland, New York, and San Francisco. They built a beautiful home and life in a small town on the outskirts of San Francisco called Brisbane. They raised their three boys in this home, had wonderful adventures, and enjoyed many years together. Miriam worked for many years at a nearby elementary school as a teacher's aide, where the kids adored her.

In 1986, Miriam moved to Miami, Florida, once again. She purchased a new home and began working for Estee Lauder, which lasted many years, and she made many great friends through her journey. She enjoyed dancing and going to the beach, and she spent a lot of time caring for her mother and boys.

In 2004, she moved to Acworth, GA, to be closer to her sons. She made many new friends and enjoyed her later years, becoming part of the Red Hat Society, the senior center, and the Rosary group. Most importantly, she loved being a grandma, “Mimi”. She looked forward to playing games and was a fierce competitor at that. Miriam also enjoyed working in the garden, tending to the birds, wood carving, sewing and knitting clothes for her grandchildren and dogs, needlepoint, cooking for her family, painting and drawing, as well as “making” puzzles.

Miriam will be sorely missed by her 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 7 grandchildren, her dog, as well as many friends. Her generosity, funny misinterpretations, great cooking, and plethora of outfits are etched in our memories of her.
