Nancy Wood Cash, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at her care facility in Roswell, Georgia. She was born on November 13, 1940, in Decatur, Georgia, to Warren Bond Matthews and Martha Eakes Matthews.
Nancy graduated from Decatur High School and went on to attend Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, where she earned a degree in Chemistry in June 1962. In the 1970s, she became a computer programmer, a career she pursued until her retirement from AT&T.
Nancy loved all forms of needlecraft and created beautiful cross-stitched and embroidered décor for her home. She was an accomplished gardener and eventually applied her skills through the Cobb County Master Gardeners program. In her later years, she was deeply involved with the American Legion Auxiliary (American Legion Post 29), where she served as secretary for two years. She was also very active at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta, serving on the altar guild and as a lay reader, and generously sharing her needlecraft talents with the church knitting group. A devoted dog lover, Nancy was especially proud to have owned three golden retrievers during her life.
Nancy is survived by her children, James M. Wood III and Victoria W. Meskell; her grandchildren, Roxanna L. Meskell, Duncan W. Meskell, Emma K. Wood, and Sophia M. Wood; and her brother, the Rev. Bob Matthews. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Jacquie Cash-Ott, Cindy L. Cash, and James P. Cash, and their children, Nate Ott, Olivia Schnulle, Madison Cash, Morgan Cash, and James Cash. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Frank Matthews and Dr. Norman Matthews; her husband, Peter J. Cash; and her companion of the last 12 years, Henry E. “Pete” Bagley.
A private memorial service will be held in early 2026 at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite animal charity in her name
