Ronald Arthur Willis

Ronald Arthur Willis, age 99, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Kennesaw, Georgia. Born on July 13, 1926, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Ronald's family moved to Chicago, Illinois, at the age of six, where he spent the majority of his life. Ronald lived a long and meaningful life marked by service, creativity, and deep devotion to his family.

A proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy, Ronald served as a radio operator aboard PBY aircraft during his military tenure. His time in the Navy reflected his enduring sense of duty - a quality that would define him throughout his life.

After his service, Ronald built a life filled with love and purpose. He shared nearly 70 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Carol Alma Willis, who preceded him in death in 2021. Together they raised three children: Janet L. Janulis (Jerry), Larry A. Willis (Diane), and Sharon J. Shambaugh (David). Ronald was also a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren and took great joy in watching his family grow to include nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ron had a wide range of interests. He found joy in drawing and creating artwork. He loved the outdoors, and spent many happy hours participating with Boy Scouts, jogging, golfing and sailing.

An avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast, Ronald possessed a sharp mind and a great memory. He was known for his storytelling—his tales often delivered with warmth, wit, and just the right touch of humor. Those who knew him remember his light-hearted nature and generous spirit. He approached life with patience, humility, gratitude, and an unwavering optimism that uplifted everyone around him.

One of Ron’s favorite sayings was: “I’m glad I came! It was worth the trip.” These words capture the essence of how he viewed life—with appreciation for every moment and a heart full of contentment.

Ron actively served in the church most of his life and put his hope in Jesus. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched with kindness and grace.
