Rosemary Moon Gesell passed away peacefully, in Stone Mountain, GA, on March 30, 2026 at the age of 94, after a long term illness.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Rosemary & Charles Moon of Chattanooga, TN, husbands, Fred Hartwell (1997), Ron Gesell (2014), as well as her beloved sister Jackie Meyers (2021).
Survivors include her son Lacy Thompson, Jr; daughter Susan T. Black; son David Thompson; grand-children Brian Black & Ashley Black; as well as numerous forever nieces, nephews, extended family, and long time friends - many of whom she had met as a Charter Member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church.
She was a member of the UT-Chattanooga Chi Omega Sorority & her first “real” job was with Delta airlines reservations. Later, as her children progressed in school, she substitute taught in Dekalb County elementary school system, for a number of years. Approaching mid-life, she got her real estate license and sold residential properties in the Metro Atlanta area - until her retirement , making the Million Dollar Club more than once.
She loved to dance, enjoyed singing & music, traveling, collecting Christmas decor, gal trips with her “posse”, good ole’ Mountain Dew (must sing the song), and just life, in general. She always had a positive attitude & saw the best in people. We were lucky to have her & she will be dearly missed.
The family will plan a quiet memorial, at a later date TBD.
We would like to thank BrightStar Care CNAs, as well as Agape Hospice staff for their years of care and dedication to her comfort & dignity.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Dementia Society of America, or charity of your choice, in her honor.
