It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Vicki Lynn Frenette Sims, of Duluth, GA. Vicki was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and CPA.
Vicki was born in Oceanside, CA, and felt happiest at the beach, especially Cape San Blas, FL, which was her favorite vacation spot. She loved her children and grandchildren and raised them in a home full of books and vocabulary lessons that she weaved into everyday life. She loved her husband, Dave, very much. They were married 42 years on November 29.
After meeting Dave at a concert in Piedmont Park, Vicki remained an avid music fan in the Atlanta and Athens areas. She was lucky enough to meet and work with members of R.E.M. Vicki loved Tom Petty. She became an amateur drummer playing along with his music, Johnny Cash, and others in the early 2000s. She had an impeccable memory of numbers and dates, and her accounting services were top-notch, efficient, and performed with integrity. Vicki gave the best gifts—the most practical items that everyone at the family reunion later remarked they used for years. She faithfully drove her children to music lessons and sports practices, and even though she didn’t love roller coasters, she took her son to see them. She was also an accomplished seamstress who made all her own dresses, taught her daughter to love sewing, and started the grandchildren on it, too.
She was preceded in death in 1992 by her Mother and Daddy, Louise Wall Frenette and Hubert “Al” Frenette (USMC). She is survived by her husband, David Sims of Duluth; daughter and son-in-law Shawn Michelle and Alexander Nix; son Buster Sims; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Mike Grogan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Diane and Gordon Taylor; granddaughter Scarlett Sims; grandsons Clint Jolliffe and Jackson Jolliffe; and a multitude of cousins and great-nieces and nephews.
