Virginia Dale Holladay Showalter, 85, wife of Donald “Don” Eugene Showalter (Deceased) for 59 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Mrs. Showalter was born in Cullowhee, North Carolina to the late Blanche Gardner. Virginia was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She passed away surrounded by the love of those she held dear. Leaving behind many who will remember her in their own unique and meaningful ways.
Virginia lived a life defined by grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her faith guided her steps, shaped her character, and touched everyone blessed to know her. She was a woman of God and that carried her throughout her life giving her comfort and direction. She found strength in prayer, joy in serving others, and peace in trusting God’s plan.
Life brought its shares of challenges, and like all of us, Virginia was imperfect. Her journey as a wife and mother was marked by complexities, yet she remained an enduring presence in her family’s story. Over the years, relationships evolved, softened, and grew in understanding.
One of Virginia’s greatest joys in later years was her grandchildren. She especially loved when they would sit beside her to brush and braid her hair, moments that filled her with simple happiness and connection. Those quiet times together created tender memories that will not be forgotten.
Virginia also had a thoughtful and faithful habit that many will always remember: she made sure to send birthday cards to everyone. It did not matter whether you were family by blood or simply family by heart- if she knew your birthday, a card would arrive. It was her way of reminding others that they were seen, remembered, and valued.
She will be remembered for her bright smile that could light up a room, and for the small but meaningful gestures that showed she cared. May those who knew her hold onto the memories that bring peace, healing, and even a smile when they think of her.
Though her absence leaves a profound void, her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will live on in the lives she touched. The lessons she taught, the prayers she prayed, and the love she freely gave will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Tammy) Showalter, and Gary (Fonda) Showalter; three daughters, Terri Showalter, Susan Showalter, and Kathy (Jeffrey) Kessler; two brothers, Larry Holladay and Ronald (Connie) Gardner; one sister, Carol (Frederick- deceased) Walker; eleven grandchildren, Christi (Caleb) Sprecher, Laura Madison (Greg) Schafran, Leanna (Riley) Warner, Charity (Ethan) Chaffee, Ashlyn Showalter, Kaitlin (Derrick) Roughton, Khindrid Aster Sol, Kimberly Kessler, Charissa (Morgan) Michel, Kyleigh (Michael) Edwards, Kennady Kessler, and Liam Dudley; and thirteen great- grandchildren, Jayson, Titus, Bryson, Silas, Asa, Ezra, Current, Cameron, Maddie, Peyton, Jasper, Maddox, and, Judson. She was predeceased by a mother, Blanche Gardner; a daughter, Sharon Myer; a husband, Donald “Don” Showalter; and a grandson, Brandon Rager.
Virginia Dale Holladay Showalter’s life was a testament to the beauty of a faithful heart and a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
