Virginia "Ginger" Mae Dorsey Still, 89, of Powder Springs, GA, passed from this Earth to her Heavenly home on June 29, 2026. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love and kindness that were the essence of her life.
She was born on September 7, 1936, in Atlanta, GA, to Mark Carr Dorsey and Grace Bell Dorsey.
She lived some of her early childhood years in Massachusetts, the Bronx, NY, and New Jersey. Then came to live in Hapeville, GA, and graduated from Hapeville High School. She worked various jobs over the years. This included Secretary to the Pastor at Rainbow Park Baptist Church; Secretary to the Minister of Music at the Baptist Tabernacle; Secretary at a local chemical company; Real Estate agent; and Medical Research Assistant at Emory University. She retired from Emory. First and foremost, she was a mother, always there for her children. When her daughters were teenagers and got their horses, she discovered her inner cowgirl who enjoyed horseback riding. Petting cows was another of her favorites. Her constant companion was her cat, Miss Kitty. She loved classical music and church hymns. A devout Christian, she was active in her church and supported missions. Her most recent membership, when she moved to Dallas, GA, was at Mt. Nebo Methodist Church.
She was always ready with a warm, friendly smile and went out of her way to be kind to all folks, especially a stranger. Actually, no one remained a stranger to her. Once, she met some people in a checkout line in a store and ended up being friends and assisting that family for years. This was just one among many instances of her generosity with her time and resources. This was how she demonstrated her unwavering faith in God and shared the love of Jesus by helping anyone that she could.
As she always said, she was blessed with 3 good husbands, who preceded her in death: Durward V. Cason, Jr.; James L. Still, Sr.; Harry L. Rudy. Also preceding her in death were her parents and brothers Hugh "Buddy", Richard, Terry Dorsey, and sister Janet McDermott.
Remaining to cherish Virginia's memory are: daughters Dawn V. Cason and Ann B. Cason; stepchildren Teresa Still Felt and J. Lamar Still, Jr.; grandsons David and Daniel (Renee) Contarino, Devon (Deana) and Dylan (Gina) Baxter; great-grandson Colton Stevens; step-grandchildren Dominic (Hannah) Still and Jessica (Trevor) Sagon; sisters Margaret Carter and Marsha (Steve) Lamb.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates a donation made in her memory to her favorite charities or a favorite of your own. Three of her favorites were: Heifer International, Operation Smile, and Doctors Without Borders.
