William Roy Dawkins Jr

William Roy Dawkins Jr., 76, of Conyers, GA, went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2026.

Roy was born on April 6th, 1950, in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of William Roy “Dub” Dawkins, Sr., and Winona Dawkins of Marietta, GA. He graduated from Marietta High School and went on to study history at West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia), where he received an award for being the top history student in the department. He later graduated with a nursing degree from Georgia State University.

Roy married his wife of 47 years, Carla McClung, in 1979. Together, they have four children and two grandchildren.

Roy worked as a nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, working mainly in the Neurovascular ICU. He retired in 2014 after spending his entire 42-year nursing career at Northside.

Roy was a member of Rockdale Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His favorite church activities were singing with the choir and substitute teaching in his Sunday school class, the Truth Seekers.

Roy especially loved sports and was a lifetime fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. His hobbies included studying the Bible, baseball cards, and chess, which he enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren.

Remaining to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife Carla; children, Benjamin (and Blair), Matthew, Samuel (and Natasha), and Abigail (and fiancée Kelley); grandchildren, Noah and Henry; Sisters, Harriet Abusaid (and Ahmad) and Dorothy Boyd (and Keith); brother, Hal (and Janet); Nieces and nephews, Keith Dawkins, Kyle Dawkins (and Kelly), Kerry Boyd (and Darcy), Brian Boyd (and Caroline), and Kellen Boyd (and Casie); Father-in-Law, Carl McClung; sister-in-law, Connie McClung, and many friends.

Services will be on Thursday, 9/17 at Rockdale Baptist Church (1295 Smyrna Rd SW, Conyers, GA 30094). There will be a visitation at 10:00 am followed by a homegoing service at 11:00 am.
